GE F Automation

GE Fanuc Automation is preparing for the launch of CIMPLICITY® Version 7.0, the latest addition to our family of HMI/SCADA products. CIMPLICITY 7.0 will help you improve your business performance through powerful new features and increased integration with our Proficy family of products.

We have focused on improving security, disaster prevention and recovery, simplified project development, and improved connectivity to CNCs. With CIMPLICITY 7.0 your development costs will decrease and your day to day operational performance will improve.

One of the key ways CIMPLICITY can help you improve your business performance is through the integration with other products in the Proficy family. Unique to the industry, GE Fanuc has integrated its Change Management product with CIMPLICITY to provide you with revision control of your projects.

HMI/SCADA and Change Management WebCast on November 1
GE Fanuc and Control Engineering are hosting a webcast entitled "Change Management: The 'Undo' Button for HMI/SCADA Projects". This webcast will highlight the major advantages of incorporating change management functionality within an HMI/SCADA application.

The event will feature Craig Resnick of ARC Advisory Group and will be moderated by Renee Robbins, Editorial Director of Control Engineering.

Register now for this event, at www.controleng.com/changewebcast.

CIMPLICITY 7.0 can be integrated with our Portal product, providing you with the ability to analyze your current and historical data into meaningful information is critical to improving your operations. Enhancements have been made in CIMPLICITY 7.0 that now allow you to host Portal screens within your CIMPLICITY screens, or CIMPLICITY screens within your Portal screens. You now have even further insight into your operations than ever before.

Historian has been integrated in CIMPLICITY 7.0. When using historical trends in CIMPLICITY, Historian provides a significant performance enhancement over SQL, in many cases over a 10X increase in the speed for retrieving and charting the data. SQL is still supported and in fact we support logging to both SQL and Historian at the same time. This allows you to enhance your system at your own pace.

We have also enhanced the integration between CIMPLICITY and Machine Edition View by supporting the passing of array points between the products.

We’ve also made enhancements to OPC in Version 7.0. We now include the CIMPLICITY OPC Server at no charge. The OPC Server allows you to provide information that CIMPLICITY has gathered or generated out to other OPC capable systems. In addition to this we’ve added some features and enhancements to the OPC configuration and event handling.

Security has been improved with the ability to integrate with Change Management to limit who can make changes and track and roll back changes if required. In addition, we’ve added the ability to specify that a password must be entered to start or stop a project. Privileges for Privileges for Right Mouse Menu Actions and Password enhancements have also been added.

We’ve also improved our connectivity to the latest series of our CNC controllers.

CIMPLICITY 7.0 also adopts the common Proficy software licensing allowing one licensing method for all of your GE Fanuc software. Based on hardware keys, you will see several benefits including:

* Out of the box, up and running – With the hardware based keys you no longer have to call in to register your software. You can install your software and are immediately licensed to use it. No more reading off or typing in long hexadecimal authorization codes.
* Easily Updated – When you update your system in the future you will receive a new file that allows you to re-burn your key. You do not need to return your original key and wait for a replacement.
* Extreme High Reliability – The hardware keys are highly reliable and have a very low failure rate. When compared to the issues hard disk failures caused with software based licenses, hardware keys offer a huge improvement in reliability. To protect your system and your operations we have designed the CIMPLICITY software so that it will not shutdown should the hardware key fail or be accidentally removed from the system. In the rare case where a key is damaged or fails, simply call GE Fanuc and we will provide you with a temporary software key that allows your system to run until the damaged key can be returned or replaced.
* Freedom – Freedom to easily move your software license from one computer to another. With the new hardware keys you can easily move the license to the machine you want to use it on without having to call GE Fanuc to re-register your system. It’s your key, move it and use it as you like.

Make sure your GlobalCare contract is up to date and get ready for this new and exciting release of CIMPLICITY. Please contact your CIMPLICITY sales representative for further information.

GE Fanuc Automation

Americas Go-To-Market Agreement Leverages Proven Capabilities to Transform Business Performance by Eliminating Barriers Between Enterprise and Production Management Systems

GE Fanuc has announced the completion of a sales and marketing agreement with SAP America, Inc., to jointly market GE Fanuc Production Management solutions and SAP® applications – easing plant floor and enterprise integration to increase quality, drive productivity, and enable success in key business initiatives such as Lean Six Sigma, regulatory compliance and efficiency.

This new relationship allows both companies to leverage each other’s strengths to meet the needs of customers in important Americas markets and in two key industries: Automotive and Mill Products. Other programs that fall under the agreement include the development of specialized professional services in order to support customers with planning, design, and implementation of the solutions.

“The ‘Perfect Order’ is not attainable without the bidirectional flow of crucial production information, such as production schedules, quality performance, inventory consumption and maintenance status,” said Tom Cruz, GE Fanuc Vice President of Software and Services. “By combining and jointly marketing GE Fanuc Production Management and SAP Adaptive Manufacturing solutions, our customers can overcome the barriers historically restricting contextual information flow between the plant floor and the enterprise – helping manufacturers transform their business through increased visibility and resulting responsiveness.”

The combination of GE Fanuc’s Production Management solutions with SAP’s Production Execution services allows for the gathering, analyzing and transforming of real-time data into information to continuously improve a company’s level of productivity and performance. The real-time visibility and intelligence facilitated by the combined solution translates into improved agility, quality and efficiency by tracking and executing production operations through a closed-loop information exchange with the SAP Business Suite.

“Connecting plant floor and business systems in a robust way is a critical business issue for manufacturers today because it is the only way to get the performance and responsiveness they need,” said Greg Gorbach, ARC Advisory Group’s Vice President of Collaborative Manufacturing Research. "The new GE Fanuc and SAP relationship allows manufacturers to implement a joint solution that synchronizes plant operations with the dynamics of the supply network to reduce waste, drive adherence to schedule, decrease product and production variability, and increase quality and productivity on a global basis."

“GE Fanuc has successfully implemented SAP-integrated Production Management software solutions, ranging from single-plant environments to diverse, multinational, global rollouts,” explained John Dyck, GE Fanuc Global Director of Production Management. “We have brought these solutions to major manufacturers in discrete, hybrid and process industries through hundreds of installations throughout the world. By working even more closely with SAP, we are helping manufacturers achieve the next level of business transformation.”

Traditionally, integration of production data and business systems has been limited to manual processes, or at best, automated transactions that were narrowly defined. By eliminating these barriers, the joint GE Fanuc and SAP solution will improve quality and throughput by identifying constraints in real-time, ensuring “right-first-time” production, managing production sequences, and limiting warranty and recall exposure. The solutions will provide product genealogy information traced by raw material consumption and production performance data. Additionally, they will drive operational efficiency and quality as well as the ability to respond quickly to manufacturing events and trends. These flexible, capable production systems will also meet the needs of companies that typically manufacture many variants of their products and require exceptional agility.omply with key regulatory requirements
